This is a simple useful article about the effect of Amalgam Bonding on the stiffness of teeth weakened by cavity preparation

A restorative material should not only restore the carious or defective tooth structure, but also strengthen the affected tooth
Traditional amalgam restores the tooth contour and occlusion but has no adhesion to tooth structure and thus does not strengthen the tooth weakened by the preparation
Laboratory and clinical studies showed that teeth restored with large amalgam restorations fracture as a result of tooth structure fatigue........read the article ...ok
